This design is based on the prefabricated ensemble of buildings named ‘Rathauspassagen’ in Alexanderplatz. The passages were built between 1967 and 1972 according to the plans of the architects Heinz Graffunder, Lothar köhler, Peter Schweizer and Walter Wenzel. The Zeilenabau is often referred to as a socialist version of the Corbusierhauses in West Berlin. In 2006 a documentary film ‘road number one’ by Oliver Päßler was screened on the town hall passages.
